Innovation in Private and Public Sector Services
The course is organized in two different meetings, the first meeting will be held October 25-27th and the second November 29th – December 1st .
PhD students will be rewarded 10 ECTS when having the course paper accepted. The content of the course provides an overview of traditions, recent developments, and future trajectories of innovation research from a social science perspective, with a particular attention towards service innovation. Lectures will be held by key researchers from the growing innovation environment at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences.
The first course meeting will discuss:
- The first day of the course will cover the introduction of the field innovation based on definitions, perspectives, controverses and contemporary trends and future challenges. Focus on the emergence of innovation studies will be an important part.
- The second day of the course the field of service innovation will be introduced in depth. The course will go into important debates on what differs from product innovation and contemporary discussions will be introduced.
- The third day will cover ideas that has grown into the field of public sector innovation. We will discuss the differences between private and public innovation and will introduce central concepts from recent theory development.
- Every PhD student present their PhD-projects during the first meeting, followed by a discussant.
The second part of the course will build upon knowledge from the first course by introducing perspectives on innovation integrating understandings from a broad range of different theoretical disciplines. Examples are service innovation, public innovation, the geography of innovation and service dominant logic. Moreover, specific methodological concerns related to service innovation will also be discussed during the second part of the course.
Moreover, PhD students are going to present the group exercise which was introduced in the first part of the course.
