Educator Workshop Deeper Learning – Application Form

When teaching is directed outward by involving external stakeholders in the learning process, students’ learning is deepened through the creativity sparked. Students get a strong sense of meaningfulness of the knowledge learnt when they get to involve and help others. Some students even develop an identity as change-makers, acting upon key challenges in our world such as sustainability. But how can teachers facilitate this in practice and in a manageable way? And what is the impact on students?

A growing teacher community is working with an approach to student learning called “value creation pedagogy”. This is all about letting students learn through applying knowledge in a course or a program in attempts to create something of value for others. Value creation for others is then a means towards deeper learning for oneself. A theoretical lens for understanding value creation learning is entrepreneurship, but its applicability is much broader.

Our invited guest speaker, researcher Martin Lackéus from Chalmers University, has spent a decade researching value creation in its many different learning forms. At this seminar we will look into the question of “value creation as learning” at the university and across disciplines, traditions and cultures.

Participants will be invited to design their own value-creating tasks for students, aided by a simple template. Participants will also be invited to a research study focused on evaluating the impact of value creation pedagogy on higher education students.

WORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR

Martin Lackéus is a researcher in entrepreneurial education at the division of Entrepreneurship and Strategy at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. He is also a teacher at Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship.

Martin’s research focuses on how individuals develop entrepreneurial competencies in education through value creation processes, and how such processes can be assessed. His research has been published in leading scholarly journals such as Small Business Economics, International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour Research and Journal of Small Business Management. In 2016 Martin defended his PhD thesis on value creation as educational practice. Martin also works part-time as an entrepreneur with an IT company he co-founded; Me Analytics develops the research tool LoopMe.

MODERATOR

The workshop will be moderated by Ulla Hytti, a Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Turku in Finland. Ulla has been researching entrepreneurship education for over 20 years. She received the European Entrepreneurship Education Award in 2019.
