Norsi Research School Conference 2019

The 2019 NORSI Research School Conference took place Thursday 17th and Friday 18th January 2019 at BI Norwegian Business School, Oslo. 

You are invited! Norsi invites anyone interested in the latest within innovation research, friends and networks partners of NORSI to attend. The student presentations give interdisciplinary perspectives to a wide range of topics within Innovation Studies.

 Format

Conference aim: The goal is to provide a comfortable and open environment for Norsi students to presents their research in progress, findings so far, and to receive feedback and support from peers.

Norsi student presentations: Only NORSI PhD students may present.

Work in progress: This is intended to be a platform for all students and not just those whom are near completion.

Research education: Taking part in the conference is seen as an important part of the research education for students that are part of NORSI. We encourage all NORSI students and supervisors to participate.

Junior Discussants: NORSI students whom opt to not present are encouraged to attend. NORSI students attending will be asked to be junior opponents. Even if you do not present, we might ask you to be a junior discussant on a paper.

Key Note

NORSI is happy to announce that Professor Koen Frenken, Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University will give the key note lecture titled “The Rise of the Platform Economy: An Institutional Perspective”.

Program

The conference will start on Thursday, 17 January and end in the afternoon on Friday, 18 January 2019 (no later than 15:00).Please check before the conference as there may be slight unavoidable changes due to absences etc. Please discuss this event with your supervisors to make the most of this opportunity. There will be an tapas-dinner reception after the presentations on Thursday evening.

Norsi Alumni Talk

Norsi Alumni student Hanne-Kristine Hallingby will on Day 1 give a talk about her PhD experience of combining her employment and PhD research. Her lecture title is “My industrial PhD, a gateway to the Norwegian innovation community.” In her talk she will the highlight the relevance of her PhD within the innovation research field and give her take on why its important to build a network within your research field.
Hanne-Kristine is employed at Telenor and recently defended her PhD titled “Understanding Platform Emergence and Openness in the Mobile Telecommunications Industry Using Platform Ecosystem and Technological Innovation Systems Perspectives” at University of Oslo, TIK Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture.

NORSI Research Workshop

A student initiative is taking place on 2 day of the conference. The event “NORSI research workshop: exploring collaboration spaces” is open to everyone (all conference participants, students, faculty, other researchers). Download presentation here
The meeting is an oppportunity to discuss current opportunities for joint research activities between NORSI students, graduates and faculty members. The aim is to discover which collaborations are possible right now, and lay the foundations for NORSI research projects, hopefully involving researchers at different career stages. The meeting will include short presentations from experienced NORSI members on their current research agenda, sketching out which competences and interests would be most suitable for fruitful collaboration, and a brief overview of some active parts of the research frontier particularly receptive to the pluralist style of research fostered by NORSI. Finally, contacts materials between all interested parties will be shared, allowing researchers to keep in touch after the conference and further develop joint research ideas.

Full paper: Deadline 7 January 2019. Submitt to Birte.m.horn-hanssen@bi.no
Each presentation will receive prepared feed-back from both a senior and junior opponent. Each student will be given 30 min.; 15 min. presentation and 15 min for feed-back/questions. The paper to be submitted before the conference does not have to be a complete work, and can be in progress. Max. length should be about 8000 words, however shorter papers in draft versions are also acceptable. All abstractss will bew made avialble online.

Travel and Accommodation

Travel and accommodation will be covered for all NORSI students, supervisors and representatives.
Accommodation: A blook of room has been reserved at Radisson Nydalen hotel. Please reserve your room by sending Birte an email. You room will be billed direclty to BI and Norsi.
Travel Refund: All travel expences (economy) will be refunded after the conference.
