NORSI CONFERENCE 2020 – 8 years of sharing and developing research!

NORSI CONFERENCE 2020 – SUMMARY, FOLLOW UPS & SLIDES

Research-sharing arena:  NORSI Conference 2020 completed in its usual form as an informal community research-sharing arena. We had two full NORSI days filled with two dozen student presentations!

Thank you: We want to express our gratitude to all who attended and contributed – participants, speakers, session chairs, and commentators!

8 years of NORSI: The grand old man of NORSI, Professor Bjørn T. Asheim, UiS delivered the summary remarks of the NORSI Conference 2020. For Bjørn this was a proud but sentimental moment. This was the last year of the 8 years funding period – before we merge to a Nordic NORSI later this year. Bjørn said that he is so impressed with the continuous higher quality of student presentations and the growing number of students attending. This year we had 60 participants, 26 presentations, 3 keynotes, and 1 alumni initiative. Bjørn sees this as a “very nice and promising sign for the future!”

Entrepreneurship key notes: We had two key notes focusing on entrepreneurship. Professor Erik Stam, Utrecht University set the stage with the first key note on the framework of entrepreneurial ecosystems. Associated Professor Shiri Breznitz, University of Toronto gave the second key note presenting research findings on entrepreneurship education.

The NORSI future: The NORSI way forward was outlined and discussed. Professor Roger Sørheim, NTNU and program manager of NORSI emphasized what NORSI has achieved and where we are heading as a Nordic Initiative. Philip Lorentzen from the Research Council stressed the importance of NORSI and the PhD candidates’ contributions. And, the Research Council is looking forward to see what NORSI will accomplish over the next few years as we look to collaborate with other Nordic universities!

Alumni talks and initiatives: NORSI is in its essence about evolving and developing as researchers. This year we had two alumni presenting that are excellent examples of that. Associate professor Marte C. W. Solheim, UiS gave a very inspiring and thought-provoking talk about research dissemination. Researcher Beniamino Callegari, Kristiania University College gave a status report on the interesting and exciting ongoing NORSI alumni initiatives that NORSI students, alumni or faculty may participate in.

Impressive multi-tasking: And we had a show of impressive multitasking by NORSI student Haakon Thue Lie, NTNU who handed in his thesis during one of the coffee breaks!

Thank you for this year – and hope to see you all again at the next NORSI event!
