Exam

All students that are registered with UiT for this course will hand in a paper.You will receive more info on this later. If there are some serious unforseen changes that prohibit your from handing in your paper then you have to withdraw yourself from the course/exam by using UiT Studentweb before April 15th 2016.

Location

All lectures, will take place at Teorifagsbygget, house 1, 4th floor, rom number 13.

 Arrival at Tromsø Airport, Langnes

For those of you arriving before Monday morning, you can take the bus  (FLYBUSS) directly from the airport to your hotel . It will take approx 14 minutes.

If you arrive Monday morning, you need to take a taxi to the University Campus,  Please share taxis if possible. Tell the driver to stop at the “MIX – Kiosk” at the university (Universitetsvegen 29). From there you go to the building opposite the Kiosk and take the elevator to the 4th floor, where you’ll find room number 13.  

Accommodation and transportation to UiT

Hotel reservations goes through Birte. PING has reserved a block of rooms at Scandic Grand Tromsø. If you are PING student or Faculty your hotel room wil be paid directly by PING. 

From Tromsø city center you take the bus number 20 to the University Campus. The bus runs aprox. every 10 minutes. Please ask at the hotel for guidance to find the bus stop. The bus will take about 15 minutes. When you get off at the bus at UiT campus please follow these directions

The public library in Tromsø is open in the evenings and is a nice place to work, if you want to explore other options than working in your hotel room  Norwegian restaurants are quite highly priced, here are some affordable alternatives. On Monday  we will have a joint dinner with faculty, the other days you organize yourselves to your preference. For more information about Tromsø,  see Tourist office

Lectures

Please be in good time for the lectures and seminar, we start promptly according to the schedule.  Be prepared with the todays readings, according to the attached readinglist. Also prepare groupwork  when asked by the faculty. Information about the required termpaper will be given you on Friday in the course week.

Lunch

Lunch will be served in the  canteen (ground floor on Teorifagsbygget hus 1). If you have any dietary requirements , please mail me as soon as possible. Coffee and tea will be served in lecture room.

Content:

Thee course offer an introduction to the topic of innovation and sustainability transitions. Students will become familiar with the foundations of transitions research, its main conceptual and analytical frameworks as well as with current debates and knowledge gaps in the field of sustainability transitions. The course is designed to provide students with an opportunity to become familiar with different aspects of transitions research and to discuss this in relation to their own research projects.

During the course students participate in plenary sessions, smaller group sessions where they present and receive feedback on their own work, and contribute to the discussion of their peer students’ work. The plenary sessions will include questions and dialogue and there will be good opportunities for informal discussions among participants and faculty.

Themes covered in the course include:

  • Foundations of transitions research
  • Main conceptual frameworks: technological innovation systems (TIS) and the multi-level perspective on socio-technical transitions (MLP)
  • Governance of sustainability transitions and grand challenge-driven innovation policy
  • Geographies of sustainability transitions
  • Sustainability transitions, innovation and industry dynamics: the role of new entrants and incumbents
  • Sustainability transitions and institutional change
  • Sustainability transitions in the Nordic Countries: empirical findings and ongoing research projects 

PING  – Travel Reimbursement

As this course is considered a PING course all travel expenses etc. will be covered for PING students. Same procedure as for other PING classes.PING students’ refund is dependent upon completion of course work and their status as a PING student.

Please not that PING does not issues per diem (diett penger) but will refund your food expenses, so save your receipts. 

In order to receive your travel refund mail/scan in all your original tickets and original receipts (plane, taxi, bus etc.) to Birte. However, if your “home” institution has temporarily covered your travel costs, your institution may send BI/Birte and invoice (faktura) asking PING to cover your outstanding travel costs with copies of your receipts. (Norwegian: Hvis ditt lokal studiested legger ut for deg så kan det lokale studiestedet fakturerer BI totalt for alle sine PING studenter med en totalsum for reisekostnadene. Legg ved kopi av vedlegg). Please ask your institution to specify who (your name) the invoice/travel refund is for and write NORSI 8037- 80175 on the invoice.
